Besan Chilla is a popular Indian dish that is made using gram flour (besan), spices, and vegetables. It is a delicious, crispy and filling snack that is perfect for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It is a versatile dish that can be customized to suit your taste buds by adding different spices and vegetables.
Assemble all ingredients together to avoid last minute rush.
Wash and finely chop onion, ginger, green chili and coriander leaves.
Cooking
Add besan in a Mixing Bowl and then, add ajwain, coriander powder, red chilli powder and salt.
Now add water and whisk it to a smooth batter.
Rest the batter for 25-30 minutes, as besan will absorbs water and turn light.
After resting, add chopped onion, ginger, green chili and coriander leaves. Mix well and adjust the consistency by adding more water if required to thick flowing batter.
Now, heat a Tawa or Frying Pan over medium heat and pour a ladleful of batter on the Tawa. Spread evenly.
Spread 1 tsp of oil over chilla and allow to cook for 1 -2 mins over medium flame.
Now flip the chilla and cook both sides.
Your Besan Chilla is ready. Serve with green chutney.
Choice of Veggies: Feel free to add veggies of your choice in Besan Chilla like zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower, tomato, green peas, spinach or fenugreek leaves. It is important to finely chop all veggies before adding in besan.
Fresh besan: Make sure to use fresh besan. If the gram flour looks like having clumps and has a bitter aroma or taste, the besan is not fresh.
Salt & Spices: Adjust salt and spices as per your taste buds.
