Chettinad Kozhi Curry Recipe
Chettinad Kozhi Curry, also known as Chettinad Chicken Curry, is a traditional South Indian dish that originated in the Chettinad region of Tamil Nadu. Ingredients
- 1 lb Chicken Breast / boneless chicken
- 2 tbsp Oil
- 1 tsp mustard seeds / rai
- 1 tsp Cumin (Jeera)
- 1 tsp Fennel (Saunf)
- 2 tsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tsp Red Chilli Powder
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp Garam Masala
- 1 cup Tomato
- 1 cup coconut milk
- 1 cup water
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp coriander leaves / cilantro for garnish
Instructions
Pre-Cooking Prep Steps
- Cut the chicken into small pieces and set them aside.
- Peel and chop the ginger and garlic.
- Chop the tomatoes and set them aside.
Cooking Steps
- Heat the oil in a large pan over medium heat.
- Add the mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and fennel seeds and sauté for 1-2 minutes, until fragrant.
- Add the ginger-garlic paste and sauté for 1-2 minutes, until fragrant.
- Add the red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, and garam masala powder and sauté for 1-2 minutes, until fragrant.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and sauté for 2-3 minutes, until the tomatoes are soft and mushy.
- Add the chicken and sauté for 2-3 minutes, until the chicken is browned.
- Add the coconut milk and water, and bring the mixture to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to low and simmer the mixture for 10-15 minutes, until the sauce thickens and the chicken is cooked through.
- Season the curry with salt, to taste.
- Garnish the curry with chopped cilantro and serve.
