Homemade Raspberry Jam Recipe

Step by Step Homemade Raspberry Jam Recipe

Raspberry Jam Recipe
Raspberry jam is a delectable preserve made primarily from fresh raspberries, sugar, and often a touch of lemon juice. As the fruits cook, they release their natural pectin, which, in combination with sugar, thickens the mixture, resulting in a luscious, spreadable delight. Unlike commercial versions laden with additives and preservatives, homemade raspberry jam showcases the fruit in its pure, unadulterated form, allowing the genuine flavors and textures of raspberry to shine.

Homemade Raspberry Jam Recipe

As a housewife turned food critic, my kitchen has always been my sanctuary. I still vividly remember the first time I attempted making raspberry jam. The intoxicating aroma of simmering raspberries, the vibrant burst of red against the glistening pot, and the pure joy of tasting the fruit of my labor, spread on a slice of warm toast. That velvety texture, the right balance of sweet and tart—it was nothing short of poetry on my palate. That day, not just a jam, but a memory was crafted, one that I cherish and aim to recreate every summer.

What is Homemade Raspberry Jam

Raspberry jam is a delectable preserve made primarily from fresh raspberries, sugar, and often a touch of lemon juice. As the fruits cook, they release their natural pectin, which, in combination with sugar, thickens the mixture, resulting in a luscious, spreadable delight. Unlike commercial versions laden with additives and preservatives, homemade raspberry jam showcases the fruit in its pure, unadulterated form, allowing the genuine flavors and textures of raspberry to shine.

Making homemade raspberry jam is more than just a culinary endeavor; it’s an act of preserving memories, of bottling up summer’s essence. So, the next time you spread that jam on your toast or dollop it on your dessert, remember, you’re savoring a piece of tradition, infused with love.

Variations – Raspberry Jam Recipe

Seedless Raspberry Jam For those who prefer a smoother texture, a seedless variant is ideal. This involves straining the raspberries through a sieve after cooking to ensure a fine, velvety finish.

Raspberry and Mint Jam Infuse a hint of Indian flair by adding finely chopped mint leaves to your jam. The refreshing touch of mint perfectly complements the sweet-tart nature of raspberries.

Spiced Raspberry Jam Add a pinch of ground cardamom or cinnamon to your jam for a warm, aromatic twist, reminiscent of Indian desserts.

Nutritional – Raspberry Jam

Raspberries, the star ingredient, are packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. They are particularly rich in dietary fiber, vitamin C, and manganese. When consumed in moderation, raspberry jam can:

  1. Boost Immunity: Thanks to the high Vitamin C content.
  2. Promote Digestive Health: Courtesy of the dietary fiber.
  3. Offer Antioxidant Protection: Helping combat oxidative stress in the body.

However, remember, while the fruit itself is nutritious, the sugar content in jam makes it a treat to be enjoyed sparingly.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg raspberry
  • 1 kg sugar
  • 2 lemon

Instructions

Preparation

  • Assemble all ingredients together to avoid last minute rush.
  • Squeeze juice from the lemon and keep lemon skin as well for use.
  • Sterilize your Jars / Airtight Containers in hot water as mentioned above.
  • Rinse the raspberries and wipe them with a kitchen towel to dry out excess water.
  • Place a plate in the fridge for testing.

Cooking

  • Take a wide Pan or Cookpot and add the raspberries.
  • Start cooking raspberries over medium flame and with the help of a Potato Masher, mash them into a pulp. Cook for 5-6 minutes.
  • Let them cool down a bit and sieve the cooked raspberries over a Bowl. Gently sieve all juice and pulp until you will be left with only seeds.
  • Now, transfer back the juice and pulp into the Pan and add the sugar, lemon juice and lemon skin.
  • Bring it to boil and gently mix the sugar completely. Cook for 8-10 minutes or until jam is set.
  • Remove from heat and discard lemon skin from it in it. Mix very well.
  • Now, drop a little jam onto the chilled plate (kept in fridge) and push your finger through it. It should wrinkle and looks like a jam. If it doesn't, boil for 2 mins more and test again.
  • Stir well once it's cool down.
  • Pour into the sterilized Jars and seal with the lids.
  • Your yummy Raspberry Jam is ready to serve!
